Exterior Builds

When you decide to actually start building your TARDIS, create yourself a thread here and show us what you're doing! Pictures are welcome. When you finish, go over to the Exterior Gallery, and make a thread over there with some nice photos of your work.

Cheers guys.

I do like the sharing idea. Interesing to see them altogether.

Good idea about the change of 'venue' for sketch-up Manta. Hows your build coming along by the way Demat?

Hi Mark

Still waiting on some news on the first part of the construction unfortunately. A week can seem like a heck of a long time sometimes.. ::) But the guy doing it actually wants me to comment on details as he goes along, and he also knows I want to make a photo journal of the build in stages, so I should hear something soon.

In the meantime, my wife and I's 'baby project' is due completion any day now, so I wouldnt be surprised if Tardis part#1 and Timetot both come along at once ;)

cheers
Chris

Now that would be cool (and probably my wife's favourite option at this point as well ;)
I wonder if the hospital has a Materialisation Room. ;D

Finally, some news on my build - the base is ready and I'm off to see it (and to discuss the details for the next section - probably corner posts) this sunday morning - and I'll have my camera with me :D

cheers

Hi Mark

Yes - I was relieved to see the whole thing started at last (the guy doing the build has a lot of different things going on at once), but luckily for me this one is his favourite project.. making toy-chests and window frames etc must get a little repetitive ;)

As for Marine Ply, I'm afraid I have no idea - I think it must be quite reasonable to get in the trade though.

The good thing about the chap I'm using is that he seems to have really got into the project. I'm able to feed into the process with the design/plans side of things, and he's coming up with some great build suggestions as we go along - actually causing himself more work in the process..! :)

cheers
Chris

Nice one.

Hope you're thinking of sharing your build tips as you go along :-)

It's always good to see a project once it gets from the paper & planning stage, gives a sense of "its really happening!.

Hi Mark

yeh - as soon as each part is done I'm hoping to share any build info that I've found handy (like the power conduit under the base/up the posts - I'll post photos of that when it's finished)

It is great to see something non-virtual take shape :-)
Now, if I could just speed up time and get the rest done before Christmas...

cheers
Chris

 Timetot just materialised!

My wife and I had a baby son on friday at 12:49pm! :D

Although we did consider 'Timetot' (and a few others, like Lethbridge-Stewart, and Davros) in the end his name is Zachary ;)

What a lucky little boy having a full size Tardis to play in - I had to make do with crawling inside cardboard boxes with blue squares crayoned onto the outside :P

cheers

Congratulation Chris to you and your wife on the new arrival. Now it's up to you to play the part of "Daddy Cool" when he gets old enough to appreciate the TARDIS!

Conratulations Chris, and Mrs Demat. Nice one!

Being a Lord of Time could be useful from now on, as it would enable you to catch up on all the sleep you're gonna be missing!

Good luck Zachary, you won't have nursary rhymes at bedtime, 40 years of Doctor Who catch-up for you!

Hi guys

Thanks a lot for your congratulations and great comments :D
My wife appreciates them too - it's nice for her, having heard so much from me about Tardises in the last, er, 9 or so months ;)

I have my Who dvd collection lined up for Zachary already - it's mandatory for childhood to have to hide behind the sofa because of the Daleks/Cybermen/Bonnie Langford, etc ;D

cheers,
Chris

Thanks a lot Glen and TG :D

Everyones messages remind me of what a great community this is, and all because of a TV show..! :)

We both had a bit more sleep last night, and now Zachary is dozing, which leaves me a few minutes free for 'Tardising' (is that a word? Oh well, it is now ;)

I have some revised 3d images to post when I get the chance to finish them off.

cheers!
Chris

Just found this thread - that's so nice, it's good that young Lethbridge-Stewart will have such a fine start in the important things in life.

(Actually if you'd called him that, I bet he'd have rebelled and ended up a Star Trek fan. I know a Dr Who fan whose middle name is Spock...)

Hi all

Quick update on my build - I should have some pics of my four corner posts sometime this month (and some new sketchup 3d stuff)

Cheers Showstopper :)
Crispin, you were right, having a newborn really does do some weird things to time, it passes in the most bizarre fashion now..! Oh well, at least my Tardis build will appear to happen a lot faster, lol.

Hi Tom

yes, 2" - or thereabouts anyway. The depth of the gap for the beading is 20mm.

It’s looking really good - and you’re catching up with me :-[

Are you having panels on the inside, like your model?

Hi TG

thanks - yes, I'm going for panels on the inside as well (although they'll be quite shallow compared to the outer panels). After working it all out in 3d beforehand, I know how deep I can afford the inside panels to be before the doors become unopenable, etc :) And then it's over to the carpenter who, thankfully, doesnt mind all the details I keep loading him up with :D

cheers

Hi all

I've put this into this thread because it shows my 3d Tardis model in the best possible way (now if I can find a way of lighting the real thing so it looks like this I'll be very happy... :P) - but it's as much Timegirl's effort as mine.

The amazing 3d scenery, including my Tardis model, was rendered in Lightwave by TG who spent more than a few hours rendering and re-rendering different colors and textures on the image (Thanks TG!), and the final image was photoshopped by me - adding the mist, stormy sky, tardis light effects, the Master, the scarf, Tardis weathering, and some other details.

Once the Master materialised, and given the amazing Castle scene that TG created, I kind of thought it suggested a story, hence the title.

Speaking for both TG and myself: we hope you like it! It's been fun to do.

cheers
Chris

Now that is rather fabulous! I've made it my screen background.
It would almost fit the King's Demons, though I have visions of that knight clanking around as an assistant once he gets inside the TARDIS...
It took me a while to spot the Master's TARDIS and the Doctor's scarf.

Very nice!
