Let me see if I took any grabs off any DVD's recently...

But I think you could do a lot worse than check out the top down view of the console in the technical manual. Its not perfect (natch - its the technical manual!) but a lot of the controls are right I think.

Hello Dale,

Is this the sort of thing you want?

All of the above are screen captures from Logopolis.

It is very hard not to get Adric's hand in the way.

Best regards,
Sean Clarke.

Spot on, thank you SO much, JUST the sort of thing I'm after! Any more of the panels or console as a whole, please?

Good God, I'd completely forgotten about that pop-up green keyboardy thing! I think I must have blotted it out of my memory...

The reference pics I used were nearly all from Steven Hill's site, though only a few of them are actually from Season 18. My console is Season 17. More or less. Though it didn't actually change all that much.

There was a very nice 3D render of the console taken from directly above on TR1. I think it may have been Season 16, but was again very close to what I built. I forget who did it now. I may even still have a copy of it around somewhere.

I think you'll find the stuff near the back wall won't get seen on screen (as far as I recall) another reason for my reference to the Technical Manual...

Yes you do. Just watch Time Flight. The panels are flipped around.

Fair point, we're watching that at the moment :) I'll keep a closer eye on that...

I'm looking lots at the Pertwee variations at the moment... So this console isn't as fresh in my head... I'll just back away slowly now...

Luckily if you go back to Tom's second season and then seasons 15, 16 and 17, you get to see all the other panels as they were often assembled in a fairly random order thus giving us a good view of each, depending on the story.

The s18 panel design is pretty much the same, bar one panel - then in s19 the panels are added to and adapted somewhat and look very rough - which is why we got a new console for s20.

Marc, good luck with the Pertwee console, that changed with virtually every appearance, didn't it?

Cheers Purp,

Well... I've assembled a nice little spreadsheet for this :)

The one thing I have discovered about the 60's and pertwee's era (not got much further yet, not in detail anyway...) is that the panels seemed to be layed out in the same order every time :)

The Pertwee console never did change all that much from the original. The BIGGEST change was the metal plate (which has 2 versions) and a big hole on one panel (which has variously, a metal bin, just the lid, some weird timey instrumenty thing from Time Monster, and just the hole.)

All good things come to those who wait :)

-Marc

PS, in terms of how little the console changed over the years... That panel that the Chameleon Circuit control comes out of is based on this one...

And, latterly, this one...

A few more pics from Logopolis.

In the top picture the panel with the atmosphere analyser (as ref The Technical Manual) has a brown/copper plate above it centrally located. This is a printer the Doctor accesses the record of Rassilon in "State of Decay". It is operated using a punched card system which is inserted in the vertical slot to the right of the brown/copper plate.

State of Decay is only available on VHS. I do not have the means to transfer it into an appropriate medium and my VHS copy is a bit ropey anyway.

Regards,
Sean.

Hello again,

When I referred to the top picture regarding the "printer" I should have said in the bottom picture.

Also something to note, is that the faders that are on this console date from the Pertwee era. These silver ones are (I think) a tadge smaller than the darker coloured ones from the 60's.

In effect, you might be able to get some good shots of these from Jon pertwee's era - Just imagine a short length of copper tube and a big red snooker ball on top :)

Such as this one...

Scanned in from the Technical Manual. Not the highest quality but it is in colour.
