 Hito's virtual build
« Thread Started on Feb 11, 2008, 4:06am »

I have been unable to understand why most box plans i have found do not include complete measurements.
For instance they will measure the height of the front panels but not the width or depth, or some would give the height of the posts but not the width...

So my first step was to do a 2D Build to understand some of the dimensions.
I brought a couple diffrents sets of plans into adobe illustrator and scaled them up close to the actual tardis dimensions to get a rough estimate of the sizes involved.
Then I rounded up and down till i got all the parts fit nicely...

Then it was easy to just use all the same dimensions in 3ds Max

I took some liberties with the roof design, and i am not sure what to do with the lamp. I like the new series look but i am having problems duplicating it...

That B&W render is very Mind Robber-like. I gather you are going for an 80's style prop?

That is excellent.

I really think I need to get learning about lighting cos that looks awesome even without a paintjob!

Quick question. Should there be a door jamb at the bottom of the actual doors?

Rassilons Rod
That bit at the bottom is a detail i saw somplace and just liked.
I never thought of it as a door jamb tho just an elevated bit of the base to make the posts flush to.
It is one of the details that is impossible to figure out from just 2d reference.

Bill
This box is indeed based off of the 80s prop

Exilea
I take that as high praise, I have seen your box and thought it was fantastic.
Thank You

Here is a closer look at the some of the details.

I wanted to do somthing a little bit fancier than standard bevels, but i think i went too fancy for a police structure.
