Thats not bad at all... glad to see that it is an officially licensed product too, though the material doesn't look quite right.... perhaps it would improve with wear...
Re: the tardis main doors « Result #3 on Jan 28, 2010, 1:05am »
I was going through some of the episodes I have for a project I'm working on and I noticed something. The left door's under bite got removed early on during the Hartnell era.
In the original version of An Unearthly Child the the under bit is visible. And is visible up to The Edge of Destruction. But in The Keys to Marinus the under bite is gone. The doors now open and close in unison which couldn't be done before because of the left door's under bite. And when they exit the TARDIS in The Sensorites you can see the space between the door's edge and roundels is smaller than it was in An Unearthly Child. So I guess I was wrong about the left door being flipped for The Five Doctors set revamp.

Yep, that's the large model. You can see the small model in the bottom right corner. That was the one sold a few years back with the roof missing. Bill Rudloff

Difficult to tell the size of the large model but it could be the 1/4 scale version used throughout the Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee & Baker eras. Here's a pic from Carnival Of Monsters. Looks the same? From The Dominators: Fury From The Deep location filming:
Looks like one of the extras on the Space Museum and Chase DVD will be interesting. It is a film made at Shawcraft (the outhouse builder of Dr Who props) in the 1960s. The Restoration Team have a nice shot of a couple of model TARDISes.

Hardie panels are not much heavier than regular house siding... certainly lighter than some of the plywood panels out there, and yes they do make them in 8'x4' panels, with different patterns, though there are some that look plain or you could even flip them over as the backs are plain....
I was only thinking of it as a solution to some of the problems people seem to be having with exterior boxes. Which for the record is what I will be building....
I am actually half considering the idea of cladding the frame with the stuff (there are panels with pronounce wood grain style patterning), it would certainly weather proof the box, I just don't know how feasible it would be

Re: Whereabouts of Actual Tardis Props? « Result #23 on Jan 26, 2010, 12:59am »
The one the BBC has (the MK2), they still have. Last I heard it got moved to Wales for safer keeping. The box at Panopticon would have been the MK1 '80's prop Andrew Beech has. Bill Rudloff

Re: New Exterior Prop for Matt? « Result #24 on Jan 26, 2010, 12:58am »
Well, the corner posts are the wider ones from Series 4, but the roof width is actually a little narrower, maybe an incho or so. But the height is the same as all previous props. Alot of pics show the roof on other props being short, but it turns out to be lens distortion. Purple posted a pic on the other board of the first prop from Series 1 and it had the tall pitch to the roof. Bill Rudloff

I think that sounds like a good idea the weight on those hardy boards would be pretty heavy being concrete based. Do they make panels wide enough where you could cut the roof sections out? You also need to consider getting the roof up into position, if this is a build it and leave it arrangement you are ok, if you want something that can be broken down and moved then heaving a roof sheathed with concrete and fiber may be a bit taxing.
Re: Weather damage (my experience) « Result #26 on Jan 25, 2010, 7:57pm »
I'm going to ask a newb question because i haven't yet begun my physical build let alone gotten that far along that I am working on the roof, but here goes...
has anyone considered trying to use Hardie Panels for the roof? or infact any part where plywood would be used, either instead of or on top of.
For those unaware James Hardie manufactures a number of "siding" products for houses in the USA which are in essence concrete fibre. While brittle and a pain in the ass to use once up is actually quite resiliant to the weather and warping...
Well, now Matt Smith looks like a mix of TVM Sylvester McCoy and little Patrick Troughton. For the TARDIS, notice the lamp is reminiscent of the 1996 TVM Lamp. Plus they recycled the cap from the previous lamp housing. And notice the windows are now of a more proper configuration. I wonder if the windows and sign boxes are no longer being lit up, since even the sign boxes have new signs with white letter. Good news is, I don't have to make new drawings. Bill Rudloff
6 months down the line, what do you think now? Are the dimensions still the same, or is it me and is the roof a bit higher?
When I've finished my BW model, I wouldn't mind cranking off a version of Matt's new box before April!

how i achievied the whethering effect on my police box was to use blackboard paint by appllying it on to the blue paint in small amounts and rub it into the paint work until it is almost dry . it is time cosuming but worth it
