Exterior Builds

When you decide to actually start building your TARDIS, create yourself a thread here and show us what you're doing! Pictures are welcome. When you finish, go over to the Exterior Gallery, and make a thread over there with some nice photos of your work.

What makes you think it was Dale? He may have physically typed it in...

For some reason, I really find the word Giraffe and Hobnob quite amuzing... which is why they now appear. Stupid, I know - but then that's me.

Change it back? I'll let Dale do that. Mind you, the pair of us will have a lot of thread vacuuming to do to remove all references to giraffes and hobnobs, otherwise future readers will wonder what the hell is going on!

I'm assuming all this was done with the Censored Words function, the default settings of which are hilarious.

Classic blue peter - LOL

Ah, well at least TR2 normality seems to have been resumed

But my poor old TARDIS lost it's phone panel in the storm this morning :( (That will make me put the hinges on it) and it's got a bit wet inside unfortunately.

Sorry to hear that about your phone panel TG :( It's a cracking looking box to be sure and one of my favourites!

Will it be easy enough to replace? Hope everything else is OK - bit of a breeze the last few days :o

Thank you Madgaz

Luckily the perspex with the writing on didn't break so I just need to remake the frame properly.

Sorry to hear you got a bit damaged. In anticipation of this week's storms I did a spot of quick fixing on my Tardis sturdying it all up including fixing my pull to open sign firmly shut. It made it through last night crossing my fingers over the rest of the week.

The last major storms I remember the doors blew open and the wind took the roof off! Now I've got a nice Fresnel on it I don't want a repeat of this kind of thing...

Hope your Tardis makes it through with out further incident... (same goes for other UK builders...)

Even though I've already said this on the phone to you, whatever happens to your splendid build - the very fact that you built it in the first place means that you're the best person to carry out any repairs that you need to.

That said, I hope that nothing more drastic happens to it. It's such a great TARDIS.

Aw, Thanks Purp and Marc

I've removed some more bits that looked like they were going to fall out (two windows and a top sign). Roof still on, thank goodness.

As you say Manta - fingers crossed for all the outdoor Tardis builds in the UK in this stormy weather.

Hi There, I wondered how well all of the TARDIS's have stood up to the outdoor life. I am still planning mine (although I have promised myself to buy some of the timber this week!!). I lie the sound of the water-shield rubberised solution for the roof. Is that what others have used too?

Also, is it best to start with the base?

I am going to make an NST.

Hi Rizla
My TARDIS had stood up quite well to living outdoors considering it is made out of cheap pine. I covered the roof with a liquid rubber paint which seems to have worked ok. The frame has stood the storms and the only real problems are the windows (which are out at the moment) just too flimsy and all the glue dried up – my fault, I didn’t make them very well.
It is built off the ground on a raised deck - the base is fine.

I’m doing a bit of a refurb and remaking the windows and phone panel frame at the moment.

I'm really pleased if my thread has motivated you in some way to start building :D My carpentry skills are fairly non-existent but luckily there are lots of brilliant TARDIS builders here who will give you lots of help!

And, Welcome to ReBuilders!!

Timegirl do you feel like building another one. I bet the temptation is there. Fantastic build you have done and its just like a real policebox. Yours seems to be a mixture of the barnet and crich boxes. Well done indeed.

Thanks Avadh :D It sort of started off Hartnell pilot and went real police boxy with a hint of Cushing.
I would like to build another (well, you can’t have too many) but if I do I’d like to build the next one accurate to one design, rather than a mix of styles.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is one of my favorite boxes. How is it holding up? Any chance of seeing some new photos from different angles and such?

I’ve been offline for a bit because I’m moving home. So unfortunately I’m TARDIS un-building at the moment ??? ready for the move.
I hope I didn’t use too much glue, I can't really remember...I’d better look up my build diary.

Anyway, I’m hoping to be TARDIS rebuilding by December :D

Time Girl, I am sorry I have not posted before now, but I am impressed beyond measure with your build, all aspects of it. I adore it. I have been debating about the St John plaque on my own build, but your box has convinced me. A PHENOMENAL effort!!!!!!

My TARDIS! the cheeky things! it's hasn't ever been for sale and was safely dismantled in my shed in January when this was posted. Weird eh?
