cheers Matt! I have to say that, after 18 months, it's great to be so close to having a finished Tardis - there are a few tweaks from the standard season 18 in there, and now I can see it for real I'm pleased with the chunkier look of the base, posts and the panels (and the hybrid season 15/18 signboxes...when they've been built. )

Demat, your TARDIS looks fantastic!!!!
Do you have it all at your place now? So what's left to do - windows, signs, bit o'blue paint - and you're done?
It really looks solid and craftsman built (rather than TG bodge) I think I'd have to screw my eyes up really tightly, to make mine look that good.
You must be happy

Thanks for the encouraging comments TG There's still a fair bit left to do, the main things are: panelled walls, doors fitted, signboxes & 3-steps, phone panel door and the removable cupboard behind it, sills at bottom of all walls/doors to keep out the rain, postcaps, lamp housing and windows. And of course my favourite bit at the end: signage and painting We're aiming at time travel sometime before christmas - I'm hoping to have signboxes and panels to show in 2-3 weeks time.. I was VERY happy to see the shell like this for the first time - couldn't stop smiling for about 2 days
Looking forward to seeing your Tardis windows go in! cheers Chris

Hi Jon, cheers Yes, there was something unreal about seeing it all together like that - when you're looking at just separate pieces all the time I found kept worrying about the dimensions, but after walking around the shell for the first time, and being able to take it in from more than 2 feet away (the workshop it used to be in was tiny) I'm really happy with it. As for photos, I have boring ones of stuff like the blocks holding the roof up etc, if you want those in the thread let me know (not that it's any great feat of engineering..!
Looking forward to seeing your signboxes in place Jon! cheers Chris

Thanks Karst I should really try to get more photos in the daylight - the floodlights in the workshop at night are a bit harsh for the photo's really; hopefully when the next stages are done I'll get the camera out in the daytime..

Wow it’s looking brilliant Demat – and as good on the inside as the outside. Nice to see the construction shots, it is a very neat build
It does look like it’s very nearly materialised but when you list all the things still to do it will keep you busy for a while yet

Hi Chris,
Looks great. Really sturdy looking! I am glad you're not going to have the sill around the bottom, the look is definitely better without, if possible.
I like the way you're going to have panels on the inside a la 'Father's day' (and Scarfwearer now I come to think of it.) You should see the state of the inside of my Tardis it's disgraceful.
Good luck with the rest of it. It's the little fiddly bits that take all the time, well it was with me anyway. But you seem to be building up some momentum now. Bet you leave the corner caps until last! Matt

Thanks Primrodo, TG and Matt Glad you like the way it's shaping up. I'm very happy to be turning those sills into 'optional extras' and only fit them if and when the need arises..
Yes - still plenty left to do TG; and you're right Matt - I can imagine that the fiddly stuff like windows is going to occupy me for a while yet

That looks really nice! I like how you used real wood and not MDF. I feel a bit like I cheated on mine. The painting stage is a pain in the neck but the transformation from giant wooden lump to TARDIS is well worth it. As Crispin said "That blue paint moment". Will you need to do a primer coat? Or just straight colour? That's the problem with MDF. You need to prime/seal it before you even get to start making it blue. Painting was the single part of my construction that took me the longest.

Thanks Simon, that Blue Paint Moment is a little while off, but I can't wait. As for the priming etc, I'm planning to use knotting solution on the knots, then three coats of wood preserver (which just soaks straight in, I've already done this on the roof) and then a grey acrylic as an undercoat, followed by several coats of blue weathershield paint (and then some thinned down dark-blue/black acrylic for weathering effects) I've also been thinking about putting some extra protection on the roof and post-tops (such as isoflex liquid rubber, or perhaps an epoxy resin) but since I'm now hoping to keep the Tardis inside, or outside but under cover, I think I may just stick with several coats of regular weathershield paint...
Got my work cut out for me.. ;-)
cheers Chris

The phone idea is just amazingly amazing! I'll have to go and take my phone apart now and see if it looks like your phone. Great idea with the talking label and what a brilliant message

Just in case anyone is wondering about them, here's the link to Talking Products I actually found it difficult to find plain, unbranded sound recorders, (and impossible to find a 60-second one) but TP have a few things to choose from that might help people make props, or booby-trap their Tardis door with some sound or other
The only other thing I would say about modifying old phones: watch out when you take the bakelite parts off... I was unfamiliar with how they used to fit things together in the 50's/60's and as a result chipped the mouthpiece quite badly. Luckily it's on the opposite side. Chances are, whatever part it is, it probably turns the opposite way from the way you expect, or has a spring loaded catch that looks like it might be a screw from the outside, etc etc

This place has 24 second modules for $10 Aus.
http://www.oatleyelectronics.com/audio.html
Have no idea how good the modules are. Seems you can get three for the price of one just now too.
