Very interesting design on the corner posts. I might consider adding a few of those angle braces in my build for stability.

Makes sense.

Thanks Jon, Glen and Gemini! I'm relieved to finally have the posts replaced. Since the photo was taken I've undercoated them twice in grey, and today I put the first coat of blue on. Sometime this week I'll be attaching them to the walls at long last :-)

Very nice.

Curious, I am looking at your pics but I cannot tell how you have secured the panels to the corner posts. I can see the small corner post braces in between the panels but it just isnt jumping out at me how you have the panels fixed?

looks great and the color is great. what type of paint are you using? i thought of going over my build with emulsion and i did try it on the back as a test... i'm not digging the results but it does stop the chipping and it has hardened into a "plastic" type coating

Thanks for the kind words Crispin, Gemini, atomic and Jon :)

Gemini - to answer your question, in the photos the panels are only held to the posts with g-clamps; but shortly after I took those pictures I put bolts through the back of each panel and into the corner posts - nothing more complicated, screws would do just as well but I knew I'd have to assemble in the garage and leave it there for a while before taking it down and putting it back up outside, so I wanted my fixings to work well several times if necessary.

Atomic - the paint is Dulux Weathershield for outdoor wood, satin (you can't get matt..) but I'm planning to emulsion it for a final topcoat as I'd prefer the matt look. The weathershield is just to provide protection underneath the matt vinyl (which very well might end up a sacrificial coat - but I don't mind having to maintain it once in a while just as long as the wood is protected ;) )

cheers
Chris

Thanks for the kind comments everyone! :D

I managed to hang the doors this weekend - they do go together but I have a bit of planing to do to have the right-hand door open on it's own without sticking - not too bad considering that the posts and overall dimensions of the box have changed since the doors were built. :)

Anyway, I've also started to fit the extra beading (at the moment primed in grey) to the posts now that the signboxes are fitted. And I couldn't resist putting a paper sign in the front signbox ;)

cheers

This is looking a lot like the way the 1996 TVM TARDIS should have looked like if it had received the wood for it cut at the correct size for the doors and sides.

That's one hell of a TARDIS you've got going there and the sign looks very Newbery / TYJ-esque. The new and improved corner posts are just the ticket too.

Almost there then with the completion in sight... old son.

cheers

EDIT: Feb 09

Sorry to anyone who's looking through this thread and notices that a few posts of mine are missing (well, 99% of the of the ones with images of my build in them really) I've moved my images to a different server. My build diary now exists in more than one place just so I can ensure that it's backed up and accessible.

thanks to all who followed my 4 year long build - it's not over yet! ::) ;)

Hi all

Bit of a mini-update - I do try to spend time on my build whenever I can, but usually end up tinkering or doing the dull parts of the job (like glueing and nailing beading to corner posts - another job I started *last year* ::) but only got around to last week..!)

If you've read my thread you'll probably remember that I had to change my corner posts - as a result I made them wider, which means I had to widen my signboxes and rebuild the second and lower stages of my roof.

Anyway, I finally got around to fitting the lower stage of my roof today - I can't fit the roof on inside the garage, so I had to make do with test-fitting the wood between the posts before adding it to the roof itself. Couldn't resist putting the other bits of the roof on top just to see the whole thing in one piece ;)

The lamp looks perfect as does the blue...although I've forgotten which blue you decided on?

Thanks TG :-) I couldn't resist trying the lamp out after all that!
The blue looks different depending on the light because it's satin (weathershield), but I think I used venetian crystal 2 on it in the end - although I'll be putting a final coat of Wild Water emulsion on the outside in the end.

Chris,

Now that is one fine looking roof. The joinery is quite nice, a real professional job there mate. I am glad to see your getting some work done on the ol' girl. The colour looks great! Are you going to do weathering?

cheers,
Jon~

Thanks again Jon :-) Yes - I'm going to roller on weathershield with a textured roller, then emulsion and then weather with black acrylic (at least, that's the plan :-) )

Hi all

Another mini-update. I didn't want to wait until the whole thing was relocated outside before starting my post-caps, so I decided to grab some wood and just get on with it (for a change..! ;D)

And I had my three-stepped lintel over the doors routered out recently (as it was built wrongly to begin with) so that my doors can close up to the inside-edge. As a result I needed to extend the tops of my doors - they're glued, screwed and primed in grey at the moment, but some new blue paint should hide any small signs of a join. A pain in the rear to do (like most of my modifications), but worth it. :D

cheers
