Awesome Jon!! I like the areas of your design where you've tweaked things, like the roof and signboxes - it's going to be a brilliant fully finished Tardis!

cheers

That's looking lovely already!

I'd definitely recommend starting around the back while applying the filth wash - there's a certain amount of technique involved to get the look you want: do a wall, then stand back and check it out under different lighting conditions. I found I needed to appply it reasonably evenly, or it looked too much like I'd smeared it on. "Evenly" means something quite different over a whole wall than it does on one signbox. Also it's easier to reduce it's evenness than it is to get evenness back again (without painting over with blue).

This is a very exciting stage to be at.

KB, Chris, Crispin and anyone I have missed, many thanks for the comments and following along with my TARDISy Police Box build ;D. She is really looking the part. I am afixxing the roof tiers this weekend, then will prime and paint once all the wood filler has been sanded. :D

Crispin, I am going to follow your advice on the weathering process by starting on the back wall, as you suggested to get a 'feel' for the process. ;) I have never done this before. ::) I plan just to 'slosh' the black on and wipe it off, keeping it thicker in areas that would tend to show more weathering, though I am not exactly sure where most of weathering would be most prominant. I am going to take a best guess. I think corners closest to the corner posts woudl be darker than the opposite corner. I have been looking at photos of other builds to see what areas show the darker weathering. Any other suggestion would be great! :)

I should have the old girl wrapped up in the next couple of weeks!!! :) :o

I am at work on lunch and wanted to send off a quick post to you great TR2 folks...

Cheers,
Jon~

Here is some photo's of this weekend progress. The little details here do really slow you down...lol ::) :P

These two can slow anyone down ;D :P

Starting the fresnel lamp housing this week with pitch panel construction. This is going to be fun! ;) :P
[image] [image]

Well, aside from getting the roof decks filled with wood filler and sanded then primed and finally painted. I feel like a lot was accomplished. I even placed the center divided on the front doors and added the 'TARDIS' specific handle just to get that warm fuzzy feeling and no brew was involved. LOL!

I'll clean up duplicate photos as I add refined photos as I go.

Cheers,
Jon~

Scott, Demat, Karst, Avadh, Atomic and Jaren Elo:
Many thanks mates on the great comments. It feel great to have you guys following my progress. I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel and it's not the train...lol!!!

I am going to get my pitch panels placed this week and hopefully get my window done along with the door 'pull to open' panel.

Kast & Jaren Elo - thanks for the colour comments. I am very happy with the final colour. BTW...KB, no more swatches from UK...lol!

Okay, for the door handles Atomic, I got them from a couple dear friends in the UK... I was quiet lucky to have such great mates in the world. I only hope some day that I can return all the good will that has been given to me here on TR2.

Here are the photos of the Dual Hole Pulls, exclusively the best I can tell from Liberty Hardware, and I think these have been discontinued :'(. If anyone knows anything more about them please take the liberty to explain on my thread... If they are still available, I might want to have a replacement set sent over just in case. There is nothing close to these door pulls that I have seen state side.

Left pull is missing because it's on the TARDIS...lol ;) :P
[image] [image]
Fine quality here mates... Very nice indeed!

I hope that helps some!!!!
Cheers,
Jon~

Only a few photo's a minimal progress. I am still working out the details on the lamp housing. I want the housing done before I cut the pitch panels. Those geometrics are playing mind games with me. I suppose I should have payed closer attention during Geometry class...whoops! Measure twice, well hell, twice more than cut once!

Here is my Yale lock in place... My good friend, KB has done it again. He sent my Yale lock which I received this past Monday. I installed it tonight. I have to cut down the bolts lengths my door panels must be too thin. I have to find a metric nut to fit these bolts before I cut them so the nut will re-thread the end of the bolt... :o

The photo is blurry, but this is where I am at with my fresnel lamp housing. I need to figure on how to make a cap for it. I don't have a router at this time. I would like to put a groove in the wood on both sides of the Fresnel to hold it steady. Any ideas?

Another shot of the those SUPER DUPER KB YALE LOCKS! Thanks KB!
[image] The second lock is for the upcoming NST build!

Cheers,
Jon~ :D ;D :D ;D ;)

you could always cut a round section of plywood that fits snugly inside of the lens at the top, mount that on the bottom of the top of the lamp housing.... thats what i did

Oh Jon..I'm in love i'm in love i'm in love..but this plum duff tastes a bit..well dungey. (Name that reference, LOL)
Brilliant build Jon, it looks awesome, I think you fresnel looks good, not a bad size, you still going to try and find one close to 6.5" inches like Purps and mine? Either way I think it looks beautiful. I also like how you don't wait to paint, its like.....paint it blue then nail it together, I can't wait..must..have TARDIS <lol> Great work Jon.

Hey Jon old mate,
The pleasure is all mine :D Anything else I can get, just hollah.
This goes to all other Stateside, or indeed, outside of UK builders too. The KB non-profitmaking delivery service is always available. ;D
I couldn't find the Liberty dual handles in B&Q either, but Focus DIY do a very similar one for the PULL TO OPEN door.

They've probably got the larger one too.

As for the router, I was double lucky, and picked one up for £10 in a charity sale a couple of years ago. I've used it once, to make a slot for the fresnel lens to sit in, top and bottom LOL.

I think I speak for all TR2ers when I say, I am sooooo looking forward to the completion of this build. This is going to be a lovely Tardis, old friend

Road block!!!! :-[

I was up working on the roof today and noticed this:

I have no idea how I missed this a few weeks ago. The front roof opening behind the posts measures 47.25" both front and rear, the left side measures 46 5/8" and right measures 46 7/8". This has been a real set back in so many ways...

I am still working on my lamp housing... It don't have a router and I am trying to figure out the best way to make the cap. A friend will be coming in to visit in a few weeks, he may bring his router. I can move onward to the roof pitch now... this appears to be the most difficult part. I am not good with the angles.

Here's what I have so far for the top roof tier and lamp housing...

Scott, KB, Karst, Avadh and Atomicgraph, thanks for the comments. I am so eager to wrap things up here. I am not sure what to do about my roof being off by 1/2" in the one corner. This build has been such a challenge because it was not square. Nothing is identical, therefore custom made pieces for each wall. Ugh! I am thinking about just redoing the entire roof base....

Cheers folks,
Jon~

EDIT: I just noticed the comment from Scott about the NST build...Yes, this I plan to start over the long winter months. I have plenty of left over timber and plywood. And yes, I have been called nuts by my wife.

You could make a little patches of wood and use it to fill the gaps and make it flush with the top of the corner posts.

It's easiest if you don't use angles (!) If you lay your roof wood against the lamp support box with your prop in place, you can mark the corners of the lamp box and the corners of the top step of your roof frame and just cut it to fit. It's much easier than messing about with angles.

I agree with Bill. Unless you are a perfectionist I wouldnt worry about it because nobody will see or notice it.

And Yes your wife is correct you are NUTS! But then again there is always that fine line between insanity and genius.

Hi Jon

Regarding the roof angles, ol' Crispin, as usual, is spot on. I did this too, and first tried it with cardboard to make templates.

Thanks everyone... I am going approach the roof using the template method. I have been trying to handle this geometrically with math... Not working! :P

The small gap behind my corner post is concerning only for snow and water penetration. I will just cut a small piece of wood per Bill's recommendation. I will liquid nail it in place so no seam for water to run in. I will get that roof done and then on to windows. Just curious what dimensions are folks using for their window bars? 3/4(w) x 1/2"(d) is what Karst used! Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Jon~

Hi Jon

Sorry to hear you've had trouble with the roof - but that gap behind the post is so small no one will notice if you just fill it ;) Good luck with the template method for the roof - I think that some card and a set-square should go a long way to getting things right, especially when you're dealing with a real-world build and the various inconsistencies that creep in with woodwork.
Anyway, looking great!

cheers
Chris
