Exterior Builds

When you decide to actually start building your TARDIS, create yourself a thread here and show us what you're doing! Pictures are welcome. When you finish, go over to the Exterior Gallery, and make a thread over there with some nice photos of your work.

Good oh, can't wait - you can be the first TARDIS Rebuilder of 09!

The box itself is stunning, and reminds me very stringly indeed of the Full Circle/State of Decay prop... wonderful!!

I will have the signs all in place with in the next couple weeks. I have seen the finished products. I just need to pick up the signs from a dear friend how lives about 5.5 hours from me. I will post some photos very soon. Thanks for checking in on me... The handles are quite nice ;) Perhaps I'll fire the ol' girl up after the signs are in place and head over for a spot of tea... :o

Stay tuned....
I am picking up my signs today in Buffalo, New York...
I should have them installed later today and even back lit too.
She will be done! OMG, nearly 3 years to complete this build.
I can hardly wait. The trip for me to Buffalo, will only take 1.5 hours to get there. It's a nice day for a drive!!!!! Sign, signs, everywhere there are signs, but have been waiting for mine and they have arrived... Yippee.

cheers,
Jon~

Okay, the moment has arrived... :'( :'( :'( :'( :o :o :o ;D ;D ;D 8-) 8-)
but before the tears form, I must show you my signs before they are placed...
I ordered them in late September 2008 and picked them up today on March 21, 2008... A long wait, but very well worth while ;).
I am very grateful for all the help that I have received from various forum members for their assistance, so THANK YOU!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D 8-) 8-)

I ordered two sets of top signs: Blue and Black vinyl background placed on white perspex. The fonts are a hybrid of the Met Police Box, with the 'Public Call' reduce in size to give it a touch of TARDIS. I liked both colours for the background and wanted to change it out from time to time... The door sign is NST in terms of background colour (silver) with black vinyl letters, however, the font is different, it's the 'original' Met Police Box font. I wanted the best of both world on this build. If anyone wants to know the exact name of these fonts, I can get that, but I don't really know the answers specifically at this time. I had a lot of help in this area...:)

The next post will be a handful of photos, I could not help myself...

cheers,
Jon~

My build started originally on 29 April 2006 and was completed on 21 March 2009. There were a lot of hiccups along the way, but I am a proud owner of a 'blue box'... ;D ;D

There really are no accurate words to describe the feeling(s) when one completes such an accomplishment like building a TARDIS. I have read many of your comments here are just a couple:

I am DEFINATELY staying on with TRB. I feel I've made many friends here. Too many to name. I've never felt judged or patronised, just appreciated for what I am. i.e. a police box/tardis/Doctor Who nut trying to live his childhood dream.

Jon, that TARDIS of yours is simply phenomenal. I congratulate you sir! When mine finally arrived and we spent agaes assembling it, and it was finally just standing there all TARDISy and such, I just stood back with a can of Wild Turkey and giggled like a schoolgirl for about an hour.

Thanks again!
the list could go on!!!!

So with out further adieu:

I know there a lot of similar photos... I just wanted my 'TARDISy' moment with you all. I think I ended up with 50 photos of the TARDIS. I am giggly and weeping, as well as laughing... An oddity of emotion is overwhelming, but the bottom line emotion is SATISFACTION! ;D

Many thanks to you my friends. I could not ask a better group of mates in the world. I would not have been successful in my build if it was not for all of your help whether big or small, all help is help and look what we have accomplished together. As always, I am here to share any of my build blunders and successes with you all at any time just ask. As to the future, I am starting to assemble my build list for my next build, yep, another, a NST. So, be on the look out for a new thread in the next up and coming months, so stay tuned...

cheers,
Jon~ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Jon, I wish I could be there with you in your garage so we could clink our drinks together and gaze at the box and giggle like idiots. What a long road, but WHAT a PAYOFF! I kind of know how you feel right now, and I have to say to you WELL DONE SIR! WELL DONE!! How many times have you walked inside, closed the door behind you, giggled a bit, then come out again, stared at the box again and gigged a bit more? Then done it all again?
To quote Willy Wonka: "For some moments in life, there are no words."

Here are a few pics of my lighting for Karst and Demat per request...
Sorry it took so long!

The fluorescent lights actually powered together with a connecting cord, great idea, only one receptacle plug required this way. The one photo shows the connector cover which is where they link.

The 'flasher' unit pulses for 2 seconds on, then 1 second off...
The bulb is an 'oven' bulb. I wanted something that had a reinforced filament that could stand the heat in the closed in fresnel.
