i used a dremel tool with a stone bit in the end that put the nicks in the metal, but it still looked shiny. i put a piece of duct tape on the lock and heated it up with a hair dryer. when i pulled off the tape it left the sticky resadue on the lock. then i used a charcoal pencil to dirty it up. after that i used a wire brush attachment for the dremal and smoothed everything over.

Wow automicgraph! That looks almost as good as Willy's.. However, in all fairness, his had about 12 years worth of real abuse. I was amazed at how real your scoring did look though.

I invested in my Yale model 80 with an 1109E cylinder. I had to order it through a special company that handles older style Yale locks (luckily the store was 65 miles NE of where I live (Hot Springs, AR and the store is in Little Rock, AR)) . Got the lock overnight without the overnight expense because I live so close. It just worked out that way. The lock was pricey(about $59 shipping and all). They key was oddly shaped yet very futuristic (a keeper). Now I just need to save some loot to start my Tardis build!!!

Scott

P.S. Willy, I can't wait to see the lock actually on a door!

Brilliant, simply brilliant. Again, it looks fantastic! So about how long did all this take?

Automograph, it has been my experience that old locks aren't dirty... however, they are scratched and scored from multiple key mis-strikes against the case. I would avoid using grease or graphite (unless recommended for functionality by the lock maker) or any substance that when dry will hinder the working of the lock. I'd say your scored well as is.

Scott

Willy, I will try to get some pics up this afternoon sometime.

Nice lock. Quality stuff, obviously worth the money. I f I had a real Yale, I don't think I'd scratch it either.
Odd that it don't have the usual round head key, but I rather like the keys that you did get.

Funny story, totaly unrelated to this thread. My wife has been sick, and the doctor prescribed cough medicine with codeine. The other night, she was talking in her sleep. She said, "K-9... now you can fold him up. you put him in your shirt. William will be so happy. K-9... now we will have five dogs."

I wish I had a difinitive answer, but I have nothing new to report. Buisness has picked up at work, and I've been having to put in some overtime, which takes away from my TARDIS building time. I had big plans for this weekend, but woke up saturday to the sound of rain on the roof (damnit!) I should be finished by now, but real life keeps getting in the way. I probably could have finished the last two walls this weekend if the weather hadn't blown it for me, but perhaps next weekend will be sunny. The weekend after that my wife and I are heading for the beach. I am growing terribly impatient, only two walls and the roof to go and it's like I just can't get it done. >:(

I NEEDED to work some overtime today, but I WANTED to work on my TARDIS. so I decided to take advantage of the weather. I left work at 5:00 p.m. and started work on the third wall. I didn't take my camera, cause pics would just be repetitive at this point. Here is a pic from the back wall as an example of what I accomplished today:
i cut a sheet of 3/4" plywood down to size and cut out the 8 inset panels. The way I'm doing the walls, this is the hardest part. Next time I'll cut out the windows from a sheet of 1/2" ply and glue and screw the two sheets together. I finished around 8:00 p.m. Now it is 9:00 p.m. and I'm back at work, ready to put in some overtime.

There just aren't enough hours in the day...

My plan is to paint the inside of the TARDIS with black light responsive paint and hang a black light inside. I think that this would create a nice glowing effect in the windows and when the door is opened. I went to Lowe's yesterday and asked the guy at the paint counter if they had any such paint, but he didn't seem to know what black light responsive paint was. It has been my experience that the people who work at Lowe's aren't very much help. This idea may crash and burn, but I suppose I could go back and pick up a few sample cards of various bright white colors and take them home to see if any glow under black light...

I think its called fluorescent paint. I don't know anything about Lowes, but if they don't have that you could probably order it online from someone else.

Willy, I found this old thread on a Home Theatre board that may be of help. It discusses mixing paints to create the black light glow.

thanks for the blacklight tips, guys. I really hope I can pull this off. My first step will be to go back to lowes and search for florescent paints. Even if I have to use a color other than white, this still seems like a fun idea. Since I don't really have a clear understanding of temporal physics, my TARDIS won't be transcendentally dimensional - so I figured i'd have to come up with another gimmick.

Today I made some lenses for my lantern out of a light diffuser. I also finished the third wall panel. I'm about to start cutting out parts of the frame of the third wall. I've been working in my brothers shop, as he lives next door to the cabin where my wood and stuff is being stored. Today he informed me that he has found a buyer for his house, and will be moving in two weeks. I'm not sure what I'll do after that, but it definitely throws a wrench in the works...

The main problem with my brother moving is that I don't have electricity at my cabin. So I talked to him and he said that I could borrow his power generator and whatever saws and drills and such that I needed, along with some spot lights until I'm done building. He's gotta be out by the 20th, so I'll get that stuff from him between now and then and lock it up in the cabin with my TARDIS.
Problem solved.
I'm nearly done with the third wall, which only leaves the fourth wall and the roof.

yeah, so close now...

Oh yeah, other stuff I did today:
I noticed that the door was not on straight, so I took the bottom two hinges off and repositioned the door - works better now. I removed the lock and door handle so that the door can be painted, but ran out of daylight before I could do any painting. I cut two 2x4s down to 8'-4" for the "corner post" parts that go on the third wall. Still gotta finish the frame work for that wall and the trim, then it's on to the fourth wall...

I went and finished painting the front wall and doors today, with the help of my wife. It is great to have a supportive wife when working on a project such as this. Without her I'd probably have never even started my build. I also got my sonic screwdriver in the mail today - awesome!

New series. The one with the lights and sound and the psychic paper. I got two of them in fact, just in case one breaks. One is still in the box

I've not posted any pics in a while because I couldn't find the cable that connects my camera to my pc. In fact, I haven't worked on the tardis in a while because it's been very hot here. These are the last pics that I took, they were taken several weeks ago when i painted the door and cut lenses for my lantern.
