Interior Builds

If you build a TARDIS console, this is the place to chart your progress and show us what you're doing. We love pictures... Once you're finished, make a thread over in the Interior Gallery board, and put up some nice photos of your completed console.

 Custom Console: January 09 Update
« Thread Started on Jul 10, 2008, 4:29pm »

I wanted to post pics of my new project. It's got a lot of other influences, but based mostly on the ideas of the new series console. The control surfaces have been exploded so that they are seperate from one another. The rotor doesn't move, but I'll have video up for you to see what action it does have.

Wow, I really really like that. It almsot feels Borg like being so dark and weathered as you have it. Brilliant build.

WOW! That may just be the coolest console I've ever seen. Screwdriver's ace, too.

Ooh, now this I like. I love the rotor and the housing around it, in fact, I am seriously impressed with that element... to the point that I'd say that if ever I built a console of this sort - I'd nick the idea. Well, you know what they say about immitation and flattery.

Great job, even better would be some decent sized images for us to gaze on - though posted as clickable thumbnails.

Welcome aboard, as they say.

And some video of the control surfaces... My PDA runs the sound for right now, but I want to upgrade to a laptop.

And some detail pics

It still has a lot of negative space in places, plus I need to add some elements of distressing after adding on some cables/wires to pull it all together... Building with Random Pieces of Junk is hard. It needs a lot of grime to hold it all together.

I love it! Just the right balance between new and old consoles imho - I like the distinctly separate panels more than the new series console's amorphous panels, and the controls actually look like Timelord spare parts and very purposeful (I don't like the random 20th century earth junk that's used on the new series console much). Do you build any other props (apart from the screwdriver, which also looks fantastic btw)?

cheers
Chris

Now that is cool. That is SOOOO the Master's TARDIS. Dark and grungy and evil looking. As Purp said, the rotor housing is a nice touch.

It's about 8 feet tall and about 5 or so feet in diameter. The original plan was to put it into a geodesic dome frame that was 12 feet tall and 20 feet in diameter. I still plan to do that, but have to wait for it to be manufactured. I want to do a build of a full Police Box to use as the Foyer (like Scarfwearer did in the corner of his room) for the entry way into the dome.

I got the inspiration from the new series of course, but these guys make a tent that would be great for the garden: www.pacificdomes.com

Oh, and I build a lot of odds and ends. My last few years have been about lightsabers. I build customs for my friends mostly. Before that I was really into tricorders and other pocket tools.

I'm bad about not showing my work until it's pretty far along by the way. I've been chipping away at this in my spare time since January. I took a long break between March and the end of June.
Below are some progress pics from the build.

Can you share what components you used? I see some lumen disks and I think some taplights that you added som texture to. Do you have any progress pictures of some of the componenets you built for your console?

It's all done with an angle grinder and an abrasive disk. I just sanded it away until it was where i wanted it. DUSTY!

That is amazing, I too thought of the Master's Tardis with it being so dark. I like the use of Palm and Cell Phones integrated.

Good work -- this thing is really cool. Gotta admit, in some ways I like it better than the one they use on the new show.

I'm old and cynical these days, and it takes a lot to impress me. This console has
really
impressed me, not only for it's originality, but the style and thought that's obviously gone into the building of the console. Love the lights and sounds - interactive toys you can play/fiddle with are always the best sort! Brilliant. Thanks so much for joining up and sharing this with us, it's a wonderful build.

I am getting a tent and cover from a gent on Ebay. The frame is 500 plus shipping and the cover has just come out and should be about the same. Still have to talk to him about that. If it were in a place that never had to move I had the consideration of covering it in a harder material. That would afford the opportunity to install some pretty cool roundels.

Still trying to figure out how to post thumbnails here that hotlink to the larger ones... any suggestions.

Also, I'm in the process of adding components to the control boxes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. What would you like to see on it?
