He did some sketches (the Lee Sullivan one from earlier on in this thread was for the DWM comic strip) and they seemed mainly to be of the console hanging from the ceiling via the central column, with no base plinth. Quite how practical this would have been in terms of actual set construction, I don't know - but it always sounded like an idea that could be beset with wobble problems. Mike didn't give up on this design idea and even used it in some kind of documentary, though it was achieved as a model set with Sylvester McCoy matted into it. I'll have a dig through the paperwork later and see if I can find those design sketches. Love to see any designs not previously seen. I think I have seen the model shot you are speaking of but never any drawings of that model. The drawing from above was first shown as the new console room design in DWM in the special TARDIS issue. I remember that the central column was changed from the design above to look more reminiscent of the original design from the Hartnell era. Never did see a close up of the controls of that console in the magazine. Of course I was an infrequent buyer of DWM back then. I liked the DWM console/console room design, it is still new and different even today. I have that issue right here because it's a cracking read. I'll scan the designs tomorrow if you can be patient. I'm new here so this is my first post! I found this in DWM 274 - it's a shot from the BBC CHOICE Doctor Who night where Mike Tucker created a mock-up of the Season 27 console room for the evening with Sylvester McCoy. I haven't got a scanner so took a picture of the mag with my digital camera. Sorry about the poor quality - it at least gives a general impression. It's quite interesting that a model shot was used - could this have been done in 1990? I wonder if anyone recorded the clips from that night as it'd be quite nice to see the console room in action. Apparently each evening was introduced by a segment from McCoy in the console room. The thing I love about the model is the veeeery subtle but large seal of Rassilon underneath the console itself. It's clearer in the actual pic. Nice work jordanno2! I'm slightly worried that the measurements could be deceiving as i took the pic at a slight angle. I'm working on getting the image scanned properly, that way we can get a more accurate idea of what the measurements could be. I'd love to see a model if you get a chance at making one. Good luck with that. I'll do my best to get a better image. I'd like to show you all the controls on the console, as well as a clearer image of the seal of Rassilon under it. And i do like that key by the way. Shame we never got to see it in use. EDIT!!! I found this on the BBC Website in the TARDIS-CAM gallery. It's a Dalek in that model console room! You can see a bit of the console on the right as well as some detail on the roundels. I guess this is the left hand side of the console room that we didn't see in the original image! Hope this may be of some use. « Last Edit: Aug 18, 2006, 12:49pm by lphwk » Link to Post - Back to Top   Logged purpleblancmange Guest Re: Season 27 tardis console/console room is it tr « Reply #23 on Aug 18, 2006, 1:25pm » I suppose that I could add this into the mix; The model room is 1:5 scale and the outer hexagonal shape of the console is based on the same dimensions as the Five Doctors console, so at full size, the panels would be 116cm along their bottom edge... the rest you'd have to work out from the pictures. I'm not sure if this model exists anymore, last time I saw it, it was on a shelf in bits along with the Red Dwarf docking bay model... and stuffed into the model was the "Mrs. Blobby" costume - yes, the beastie had a wife! As for the TARDIS key, I know that at least two where made, one bronze and one black. You do get to see them on screen, in episode one of Ghostlight (the black one) and episode one of Survival (the bronze one). Not sure if that helps, but it's of interest - well, to me anyway.
