I'm building a small scale model out of card, based on my battered old Met plans. It's about 45cm high, but I've reached a stumbling block with the lamp. Has anyone else made a model about this size? What did you use for the lamp?
I had originally planned to wire a blue LED in there, put the wiring down and out the base, off to a couple of AA batteries, but I couldn't find one that would flash at a reasonable rate (approx twice a second).
This is actually the 2nd TARDIS model I've built. The first one was built round a light-bulb fixture scrounged from a flashing roadworks lamp. Unfortunately it ran off one of those huge torch batteries (with the springs on the top), and the bulb blew after a year anyway.
Probably some sort of small gage acyrlic tubing, just cut a piece off, sand it down and Viola you have a lamp, the rest can be hard card glued for the top and base of it. That's my thoughts anyway. Good luck.

Thanks for that. I've decided I will go for the "static" lamp, partially because there's no good electronic shops round here (Maplins are rubbish) but mainly because I'm on the home straight now and impatient to finish.
Run out of card though. Bummer. Off to Partners tomorrow!
